In the bustling cityscape, where usually concrete structures dominate, the Pramod Mahajan Art Gallery is an example of sustainable architecture and responsible construction. Achieving the Gold level of IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Green New Building Certification, this gallery is a testament to the harmony between art and nature, where each detail focused on design and function is also complemented by a stroke of environmental consciousness.
Spanning across 8084.54 square meters, the Pramod Mahajan Art Gallery is not just a space for aesthetic appreciation; it meticulously incorporates an integrated design approach. The seamless integration of various elements in the design process has played a pivotal role in attaining a sustainable balance. From the site’s preservation to the innovative design processes, every aspect has been carefully considered to minimize the environmental footprint.
One of the standout features of the gallery is its commitment to site preservation. Our team of architects and designers have artfully blended the structure with the natural surroundings, ensuring that the gallery coexists harmoniously with the environment. The landscape area, sprawling over 2164 square meters, not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also acts as a buffer zone, preserving the natural ecosystem.
Passive architecture is another cornerstone of the Pramod Mahajan Art Gallery’s design philosophy. The building has been strategically positioned and designed to maximize natural ventilation and daylighting. This not only reduces the dependence on artificial lighting and air conditioning but also enhances the overall well-being of the occupants. While designing, we took advantage of the site’s topography to optimize passive cooling techniques, making the gallery an exemplar of energy-efficient design.
Access to basic amenities is a fundamental aspect of sustainable construction, and the Pramod Mahajan Art Gallery goes beyond the conventional standards. The gallery is not just a space for art enthusiasts but also a community hub. The inclusion of basic amenities ensures that the gallery is not just an isolated structure but an integral part of the community, fostering a sense of inclusivity and accessibility.
The Pramod Mahajan Art Gallery has been constructed with thoughtful design and efficient lighting fixtures, allowing the gallery to contribute to the reduction of light pollution, creating a serene ambiance for both visitors and the surrounding environment.
The commitment to water conservation is evident in the incorporation of rainwater harvesting systems and water-efficient plumbing fixtures. The gallery not only conserves water but also educates visitors about the importance of responsible water use. The inclusion of water metering further promotes awareness, encouraging mindful consumption.
Sustainable building materials are at the core of the Pramod Mahajan Art Gallery’s construction. The use of certified green building materials and products ensures that the gallery is not just visually appealing but environmentally responsible. The architects have meticulously chosen materials that have a minimal impact on the environment, creating a structure that stands the test of time.
Energy efficiency is a key focus, with the gallery adhering to the principles of minimum energy consumption. The incorporation of renewable energy sources further reduces the carbon footprint. Solar panels, wind turbines, and other innovative solutions contribute to the gallery’s self-sufficiency in energy, setting an example for sustainable energy practices in the community.
Fresh air ventilation and daylighting are prioritized to enhance the indoor air quality and occupant well-being. The gallery’s design encourages a constant influx of fresh air, creating a pleasant and healthy environment for both art appreciation and human interaction. Daylighting not only reduces the need for artificial lighting during the day but also accentuates the artworks on display.
Low emitting materials have been used throughout the gallery, ensuring that indoor air quality is not compromised. The conscious selection of materials minimizes the emission of harmful substances, creating a safe and healthy space for visitors and occupants.
In designing and constructing this, our team of architects and engineers went beyond the conventional norms, pushing the boundaries of creativity to achieve a sustainable masterpiece. The innovation in design is not just limited to aesthetics but extends to the functionality and environmental impact of the gallery.
The Pramod Mahajan Art Gallery has been awarded a Gold-level IGBC Green New Building Certification with 65 points. It goes beyond being a space for art and creativity; it is a living testament to the possibilities of blending aesthetics with environmental responsibility.
